Background: Tumours of parotid gland present a wide variety of anatomo-clinical presentations, evolutionary and prognoses. The aim of this study was to report our experience and to define the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary peculiarities of parotid’s tumours.
Material and method: thirty four patients with tumor of the parotid gland seeing during the January 1999 - September 2005 period were included in this study. Mean patient age was 34 years, we find a male ascendancy, the sex ratio was 2,4.
Results: The parotid’s nodule dominates the clinic, the radiology and the histology is essential for the diagnosis. The most common histological types of this series were benign tumours (91,1%) and are dominated by the pleomorphe adenoma (61,7%). The less frequent were malignant tumours (8,9%) and they are of bad prognosis. The surgery represents the base of the treatment.
Discussion: The tumoral pathology of the parotid gland can interest any age. The histological diagnosis before and\or per operating remains fundamental to adapt the surgical gesture. It’s not deprived of risk because of the presence of the facial nerve.
