Abstract
Introduction: A systematic literature review was conducted to optimize the durability of aesthetic ceramic and composite resin inlays and onlays and to identify the types of complications associated with key clinical outcomes.
Material and methods: A comprehensive search was performed in multiple bibliographic databases, including MEDLINE via the PUBMED search engine, as well as EMBASE, Science Direct, and EBSCO Information Services. Articles were selected based on specific inclusion criteria, published in the last 10 years (from 2013 to 2023), with a minimum follow-up period of one year.

. Oral diseases, while largely preventable, pose a major health burden for many countries and affect people throughout their lifetime, causing pain, discomfort, disfigurement and even death.
. It is estimated that oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people.
. Untreated dental caries (tooth decay) in permanent teeth is the most common health condition according to the Global Burden of Disease 2019.
. Treatment for oral health conditions is expensive and usually not part of universal health coverage (UHC).
