Epidemiological and diagnostic profile of facial fractures in the stomatology and maxillofacial surgery department of the Treichville University Hospital, Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Abstract

Introduction: Facial fractures, multiple fractures on one or more levels of the face, are the result of severe trauma. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical, and diagnostic characteristics.
Materials and methods: This was a 6-year retrospective study of 70 facial fractures in the maxillofacial surgery and stomatology department of the Treichville University Hospital.
Results: The population was 82.86% male. The mean age of the population was 34.28 years. The etiologies were dominated by road traffic accidents (88.57%), with a predominance of 2-wheeled vehicles. Trauma victims were evacuated to outlying hospitals in 61.43% of cases. The average time for admission to a specialized facility was 5.39 days. Fractures involved the 3 levels of the face ...
