Abstract
In vitro study of the bond strength at the interface of two different ceramics on the same zirconia base

Introduction: The objective of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance at the interface following shear stresses of two different ceramics on the same Zirconia base, according to two different ceramic mounting techniques: CAD- On and manual stratification.
Materials and methods: Twenty IPS e.max®ZirCAD zirconia blocks were prepared using the CAD-On technique. A further 20 IPS e.max® ZirCAD zirconia blocks were sintered on which the IPS e.max® Ceram ceramic was layered. A 20-block control group was prepared with a Colado® CC non-precious metal base on which the IPS InLine® ceramic was laminated. All samples were thermocycled. The shear test was performed using a universal test machine (YL 01).
Results: This study showed that the value of shear bond stress was significantly different between groups (p-value < 0.001). It was significantly higher in the CAD-on group (355.38 ± 82.51 MPa) and smaller in the Laminated Ceramic/Cr-Co group (145.82 ± 37.42 MPa) and the Zirconia-based laminated ceramic group (160.08 ± 64.10 MPa). The difference between Laminated Ceramics/Cr-Co and Zirconia-based Ceramics was not significant (p-value = 0.762).
Conclusion: The adhesion strength at the interface joining lithium disilicate, fusion glass-ceramic and zirconia Y-TZP machined according to the CAD-On technique is the highest. This seems to improve the clinical reliability of restorations manufactured by CAD/CAM.
