Résumé

Contexte et objectif : La prévention des maladies bucco-dentaires, en particulier la carie dentaire et la maladie parodontale dépend en grande partie des pratiques individuelles d'auto-soins bucco-dentaires. Par conséquent, le but de cette étude était de déterminer l'étendue et le degré de participation des enfants à l'analyse nutritionnelle et au conseil alimentaire dans la prévention des caries dentaires.
Matériel et méthodes : L'examen systématique comprenait des articles publiés entre 2000 et 2010 disponibles dans trois sources bibliographiques. Les bibliographies ont été analysées et sur la base de l'objectif des études, trois catégories principales ont été identifiées comme catégorie 1 : études incluses où les enfants étaient des participants actifs, observateurs et entendus ; Catégorie 2 : études incluses où les enfants ont été vus, bien que leurs propres mots ou opinions n'étaient pas employés et Catégorie 3 : études incluses qui utilisaient les parents ou les tuteurs comme mandataires.
Résultats :
Parmi les 163 articles identifiés, seulement 37 (22,7%) articles ont été jugés utilisables. Cinquante-neuf (36,2%) étaient des doublons ou des triplicatas et 67 (41,1%) ne respectaient pas les critères d'inclusion et étaient exclus de l'étude. Les résultats ont montré que sur les 37 articles utilisés pour la catégorisation, 6 (16,2%) articles impliquaient des enfants en tant que participants actifs, 4 (10,8%) des articles impliquaient des enfants, mais leurs mots ou opinions n'étaient pas utilisés et 27 (73%) des articles concernés Les parents ou les tuteurs en tant que mandataires.
Conclusion : L'examen actuel a montré que les enfants actifs dans les conseils nutritionnels et diététiques étaient faibles et suggèrent que les enfants devraient s'engager activement dans l'analyse nutritionnelle et les conseils diététiques pour s'assurer que leurs points de vue sont obtenus si des résultats significatifs sont obtenus dans la prévention des caries dentaires.

Abstract
The extent and the degree of children’s involvement in nutritional and dietary advice in the prevention of dental caries: a 10 years systematic review

Background and objective: Prevention of oral disease particularly dental caries and periodontal disease is largely dependent on individual oral self-care practices. The purpose of this study was to analyze and criticize the literature the extent and the degree of children involvement in nutritional analysis and dietary counselling in the prevention of dental caries.
Material and methods: The systematic review included articles published between 2000 and 2010 available in three bibliographic sources. The bibliographies were analyzed and based on the goal of the studies three main categories were identified as category 1: Included studies where children were active participants being seen, listened to and heard; Category 2: Included studies where children were seen, although their own words or views were not employed and Category 3: Included studies that used either parents or guardians as proxies.
Results: Of the 163 articles identified, only 37 (22.7%) articles were found usable. Fifty-nine (36.2%) were duplicates or triplicates and 67 (41.1%) did not meet the inclusion criteria and were excluded from the study. The findings showed that out of the 37 articles used for the categorization, 6 (16.2%) articles involved children as active participants, 4 (10.8%) articles involved children, but their words or views were not employed and 27 (73%) articles involved parents or guardians as proxies.
Conclusion: The current review showed that active involvement children in nutritional and dietary advice was low and suggest that children should be actively engaged in nutritional analysis and dietary counselling to ensure that their viewpoints are obtained if meaningful result will be achieved in the prevention of dental caries.
