Conclusion : L’extrait hydro-éthanolique d’Allium sativum pourrait contribuer efficacement au traitement des candidoses buccales.

Abstract
In vitro antifungal activities of Allium sativum and Annona muricata extracts on the growth of Candida albicans hospital strain of oral origin

Introduction: Oral candidiasis is a fungal infection that is uncommon in healthy individual and almost always present in HIV-AIDS infected individual. Recurrent nature of oral candidiasis in HIV-AIDS infected subjects, due to resistance of Candida albicans to conventional antifungal agents, including long and expensive treatment, and low socio-economic level of patients, motivated this present study. The aim of the study was to show inhibitory or antifungal activity of Allium sativum and Annona muricata extracts on Candida albicans.
Material and method: Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Allium sativum and Annona muricata were prepared and tested on two strains of Candida albicans with different profiles.
Results: Results showed that hydroalcoholic extract of Allium sativum has a remarkable fungicidal effect on Amphotericin B resistant Candida albicans survivors with the value of Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) equal to 100mg/mL and on Candida albicans sensitive to all conventional antifungals with the value of MFC equal to 50 mg/mL.
Conclusion: Hydroethanol extract of Allium sativum could contribute effectively to the treatment of oral candidiasis.
