Introduction: Hypertension is a common disease with serious complications. Its effective control can significantly reduce the incidence of heart failure and stroke. The main objective of this study was to determine the proportion of hypertensive Guinean patients, controlled by a fixed doses combination of ramipril + hydrochlorothiazide.
Patients and methods: Prospective, observational, multicenter, non-randomized, and open-label study in Guinean patients with uncontrolled blood pressure who received a fixed combination of ramipril + hydrochlorothiazide (5/25 mg, 10/25 mg or 10/12.25 mg).
Results: A total of 523 patients were included, and data were analyzable for 503. They were 49.9% women and 51.1% men, and the median age was 56 years. At inclusion, 44% of patients were naïve of any treatment and 38% were in monotherapy. After 8 weeks of treatment with ramipril + hydrochlorothiazide, 50.9% of patients had normalized blood pressure. In 86% of patients, adherence to treatment was good or average and adverse events were rare (< 5%).
Conclusion: The results of our study show that the fixed-dose combination of Ramipril + hydrochlorothiazide is an effective and safe therapeutic option in uncontrolled patients with dietetic measures and/or other antihypertensive therapies.
