Introduction: Ocular biometry is a major determinant of refractive surgery including cataract surgery. The aims of our study are to determine the biometric profile of the patients and to identify the parameters that can influence the different variables.
Materials and method: This is an analytical transversal study using an automatic auto-refracto*keratometer and Ultrasonic A-Scan to measure keratometry, axial length, anterior chamber depth and lens thickness in patients whose undergoing cataract surgery.
Results: We recruited 270 eyes from 149 patients from February to August 2017, with an average of 65 years old and a sex-ratio of 0.84. The average axial length was 23.46 ± 1.38 mm, the mean keratometry was 42.19 ± 1.72 D, the mean depth of the anterior chamber was 3.16 ± 0.09 mm and average lens thickness was 3.61 ± 1.11 mm. The axial length was significantly longer in the male than in the female (23.80 mm vs 23.17 mm) and women had a shallower anterior chamber (3.05 mm vs. 3.29 mm).
Conclusion: Our study made available the biometrics of patients seen at the PZaGa Androva Mahajanga CHU for cataract surgery.
