Résumé

La médecine traditionnelle dont fait partie l’odontologie traditionnelle, occupe une place importante, au sein des sociétés africaines. Elle constitue souvent le premier recours (80% de la population), du fait du coût élevé des soins, de l’insuffisance des ressources humaines et matérielles mais aussi, des croyances des populations. Cette réalité fait de la valorisation de l’odontologie traditionnelle une nécessité.
Ce travail s’inscrit dans cadre. Il se positionne comme une contribution à une meilleure connaissance des pratiques et plantes utilisées en odontologie traditionnelle. Ainsi, après une présentation de quelques savoirs traditionnels et leurs domaines d’application, les auteurs font le point des études effectuées sur l’efficacité de certaines plantes dans la prévention de la carie dentaire et le traitement de certaines affections bucco-dentaires. L’objectif de ces recherches étant d’aboutir à l’élaboration de phytomédicaments efficaces, peu onéreux donc accessibles aux populations.

Abstract

Traditional medicine of which is a part traditional odontology occupies an important place within the African societies. It often constitutes the first appeal (80 % of the population) because of the high cost of the care, the incapacity of the human and material resources but also the faiths of the populations. This reality makes valuation of the traditional odontology a necessity.
This study comes within this framework. It’s a contribution for a better knowledge of practices and plants used in traditional odontology in Ivory Coast. So, after a presentation of some traditional knowledge’s and their fields of application, the authors review studies made on the efficiency of plants in the prevention of tooth decay and the treatment of some oral diseases. The objective of these researches is to elaborate effective and financially affordable traditional improved drugs.
