Résumé

Introduction : Les résidents des orphelinats constituent une population à haut risque de maladies bucco-dentaires. Cette étude avait pour objectif d’évaluer les habitudes d’hygiène bucco-dentaires chez les résidents de l’orphelinat Al Akkari à Rabat, Maroc.
Matériels et méthodes : Il s’agit d’une étude transversale descriptive réalisée auprès de 165 résidents de l’orphelinat Al Akkari de Rabat, âgés de 6 à 15 ans.
L’étude s’est déroulée sur une période allant de décembre 2012 à février 2013. Le recueil des informations a été réalisé par l’interrogatoire direct des résidents. Les questions étaient posées par un dentiste et ont porté sur les attitudes des résidents vis-à-vis des principes d’hygiène bucco-dentaire, la possession d’une brosse à dents et d’un dentifrice, la fréquence de brossage dentaire et la méthode de brossage utilisée. L’existence ou pas d’un enseignement à l’hygiène bucco-dentaire antérieur fut également rapportée. La saisie et l’analyse des données étaient réalisées à l’aide du logiciel SPSS 13.0.
Résultats : Les résultats ont montré que 94,5% des résidents de l’orphelinat avaient une brosse à dents et que 90,2% d’entre eux avaient un dentifrice. Quatre-vingt-dix-huit virgule deux pour cent (98,2%) des résidents ont déclaré se brosser les dents et 83,3% de ceux qui se brossaient les dents le font de manière régulière (journalière). Quarante-neuf virgule quatre pourcent des résidents de l’orphelinat se brossaient les dents verticalement alors que 88,5% d’entre eux avaient déjà eu un enseignement à l’hygiène bucco-dentaire.
Discussion : Les attitudes des résidents concernant le brossage bucco-dentaire, sa régularité et la méthode utilisée reste négatives hormis la présence d’un enseignement à l’hygiène bucco-dentaire.

Abstract
Oral Health attitude and Practices among children in boys' orphanage of Rabat, Morocco

Introduction: Orphanages are a high-risk group of oral health diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate oral hygiene attitudes among orphans living in Al Akkari orphanage in Rabat, Morocco.
Materials and methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 165 orphans aged between 6 and 15 years-old at the orphanage Al Akkari in Rabat, between December 2012 and February 2013. The information collect was realized by direct questioning of all the residents. The questions were asked by a dentist and concerned the attitudes of the residents towards principles of oral hygiene, the possession of toothbrush and dentifrice, tooth brushing frequency and methods and the existence or not of a previous oral hygiene instruction was also reported. Seizure and statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 13.0 software.
Results: The results showed that 94.5 % of the orphans' children have a toothbrush and 90.2% among them have toothpaste. 98.2% of residents brushed their teeth and 83.3% of those who brushed their teeth do it regularly (daily). 49.4% of the orphans' children brushed their teeth vertically while 88.5% of them had already oral hygiene instructions.
Discussion: Attitudes of resident concerning tooth brushing regularity and the used method remains largely insufficient even if the orphans were informed of the importance of oral hygiene.
