Abstract
Optimization of periodontal and implant maintenance in the perspective of the development of a therapeutic education programme by the focus group technique

Introduction: Periodontal therapy is crucial throughout life for maintaining the results of our periodontal treatments. Unfortunately, patient compliance decreases over time and the various therapeutic programs for the management of periodontal diseases have not been validated by health insurance as an ETP program. The objective of this study was to construct a competency framework with a view to develop a therapeutic patient education program in periodontology.
Patients and methods: We used a qualitative method named focus group. In total, 14 patients “resource” allowed to set up 2 focus group (7 patients per group).
Results: The participants were able to describe the etiological factors and the clinical signs of periodontal diseases; while noting the lack of communication and information as major obstacles to a maintenance program.
Discussion and conclusion: Taken together, the results of this work indicate that, we must combine the factual dimension of care with a global, patient-centered medicine, which is itself an actor in its own health through a personalized follow-up book.
