Résumé

Introduction : L’occlusion est de plus en plus associée à l’équilibre postural. L’objectif de cette étude était de déterminer le nombre de contacts en occlusion d’intercuspidie maximale en position de décubitus dorsal, assise et orthostatique.
Matériels et méthode : Il s’agissait d’une étude descriptive à visée analytique qui s’était déroulée d’octobre 2023 à novembre 2024, menée sur des individus âgés de plus de 17 ans, venus en consultation à l’Institut d’Odontologie et de Stomatologie de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop. La méthode d’enregistrement des contacts occlusaux en deux phases de Bausch a été utilisée. Cette méthode utilise deux types de papier, 200 puis de 40 µm de couleur différente. Le nombre maximal de contacts occlusaux a été étudié en fonction de la posture.
Résultats : L’échantillon était composé de 109 individus dont 80 hommes soit 73,34% soit un sex-ratio de 2,76. L’âge moyen était de 22,4 ± 4 ans. Le nombre moyen de contacts en occlusion d’intercuspidie maximale était de 25,23 ± 4,1 en décubitus dorsal, 28,62 ± 4,1 en position assise et 29,4 ± 4 en position orthostatique. La comparaison des moyennes du nombre de contacts occlusaux a montré un p < 0,05.
Conclusion : L’équilibration occlusale devrait être entreprise en position orthostatique dans la mesure du possible ou en position assise pieds au sol dans le cas où le patient a des difficultés pour se maintenir en position debout.

Abstract
Evaluation of occlusal contacts in maximum intercuspid bite as a function of posture

Introduction: Occlusion is increasingly associated with postural balance. The aim of this study was to determine the number of maximum intercuspid bite contacts in the supine, sitting and orthostatic positions.
Materials and methods: This was a descriptive study with analytical aims, carried out on individuals aged over 17, who came for consultation to the Cheikh Anta Diop University Institute of Odontology and Stomatology. Bausch’s two-phase occlusal contact recording method was used. In this method, two types of 200 and then 40 µm paper in different colors were used in succession. The maximum number of occlusal contacts was studied as a function of posture.
Results: The sample comprised 109 individuals, including 80 men (73.34%), giving a sex ratio of 2.76. Mean age was 22.4 ± 4 years. The mean number of contacts in maximum intercuspidial occlusion was 25.23 ± 4.1 in the supine position, 28.62 ± 4.1 in the sitting position and 29.4 ± 4 in the orthostatic position). Comparison of the means of the number of occlusal contacts showed a p < 0.05.
Conclusion: Occlusal balancing should be undertaken in the orthostatic position whenever possible, or in the seated position with the foot on the ground if the patient has difficulty maintaining an upright position.
