Abstract
Factors associated with patient satisfaction at the Centre of Consultations and Odonto-stomatology Treatment of Cocody University Hospital, Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Background: Patients’ satisfaction is a pillar of quality in health system reforms and health care service delivery. In Africa, studies on patient satisfaction are limited, with diverse and varied assessment methods. The aim of this study was to assess the level of satisfaction of customers of the Centre of Consultation and Odonto-stomatology Treatment of the UTH of Cocody, and to identify factors associated with the services provided.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients aged at least 18 years who attended the centre.
Results: Three hundred patients were enrolled with a median age of 28.5 years [IIQ = 21-38]. More than half of the patients surveyed 160 (53.4%) had a secondary school level. The main reason for consultation was pain 206 (68.7%). Factors associated with patient satisfaction were convenient opening hours (OR = 2.8 [95% CI; 1.3-6.2]) being very friendly (OR = 2.7 [95% CI; 1.2-6.4]), being specific about the duration of treatment (OR = 3.1 [95% CI; 1.4-6.8]), considering future oral health care at the CCOST (OR = 8.9 [95% CI; 1.1-75.8]).
Conclusion: Our study showed low satisfaction among patients attending the centre in Abidjan. As satisfaction is one of the requirements of health care quality, it is important to conduct further studies to assess the factors inherent in patient satisfaction in dental care in Côte d’Ivoire; and to emphasize these factors to practitioners during in-service training.
