Publié dans Médecine d'Afrique Noire 6611 - Novembre 2019 - pages 543-549
Auteurs : I.A. Lenga-Loumingou - Congo-Brazzaville
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of topical prednicarbate in pityriasis rosea in black skin patients under real clinical conditions.
Material and methods: Preliminary, longitudinal study conducted at the Dermatology Department of the Brazzaville University Hospital for 22 months. Patients were allocated alternately to receive emollient or prednicarbate according to the order of arrival at the center. The clinical evaluation was done after 10 days. Effectiveness was evaluated by means of clinical response and safety trough adverse events reported by patients and skin inspection.
Results: A total of 37 patients was included, 18 in prednicarbate group and 19 in emollient group. In the prednicarbate group 14 patients (77.78%) had complete treatment response, 2 patients (11.11%) had partial response, and 1 patient (5.55%) showed no response. In contrast, 1 emollient-treated patient (5.26%) showed complete response, 2 patients (10.53%) had partial response, and 12 (63.16%) patients showed no response. The difference between groups was significant (p = 0.0001). No adverse events were recorded in either the groups. No atrophic skin signs were observed.
Conclusion: Topical prednicarbate is effective and well tolerated in black skin patients with pityriasis rosea under real clinical conditions.
